2010_2021 - HOTEL SUD
From Apulia to Sicily, from Basilicata to Calabria: Southern Italy is a world apart, the subject of journeys,
observations and narrations for centuries, a world that moves and yet seems to remain always the same.
Over the last few years I have tried to follow in the footsteps of an ancient photographic tradition,
in which the observation of photographers born in southern Italy is mixed with that of photographers
who have travelled in southern Italy from other regions or other countries.
The Italian South retains an aura of an exotic place, even for Italians. This phenomenon encapsulates many of the paradoxes of Italian culture,
which is strongly characterised by the presence of an otherness, the South,
which is seen as a kind of foreign body, but without which Italy and Italian culture and society would not even exist.
The photographs that make up this series were taken starting in 2010.
